Answers to Help You Navigate Care with Confidence

At Legacy Hospice & Home Health, we know that choosing the right care for yourself or a loved one comes with many questions. Here are some of the most common questions we hear—along with answers from our team.

General Questions

Q: Where do you provide care?
A: We provide care wherever our patients call home—including private residences, assisted living communities, skilled nursing facilities, and memory care units.

Q: What areas do you serve?
A: Legacy Hospice & Home Health serves communities throughout New Mexico. Please contact us to confirm if we serve your area.

Q: How do I start services?
A: You can call us directly, speak with your physician, or submit a referral. Our intake team will review your needs, verify insurance, and walk you through the next steps.

Home Health Care

Q: What is Home Health Care?
A: Home Health Care provides skilled nursing, therapy, and personal support for patients recovering from surgery, illness, or injury—or those managing chronic conditions—all in the comfort of home or a facility setting.

Q: Who qualifies for Home Health Care?
A: Patients typically need to be under the care of a physician, require skilled services, and have difficulty leaving home without assistance.

Hospice Care

Q: When should hospice care begin?
A: Hospice is recommended when a physician believes a patient has a life expectancy of six months or less if the illness follows its usual course—and when the focus shifts to comfort rather than curative treatment.

Q: Can hospice care be provided in a facility?
A: Yes. We provide hospice care in private homes, assisted living, skilled nursing facilities, and other care settings.

Q: Does hospice mean giving up hope?
A: Not at all. Hospice is about quality of life—managing symptoms, creating comfort, and allowing patients to spend more meaningful time with loved ones.

Insurance & Payment

Q: Is care covered by insurance?
A: Most hospice, home health, and palliative care services are covered by Medicare, Medicaid, and many private insurance plans. Our intake team verifies benefits up front so there are no surprises.

Q: Will I have to pay out of pocket?
A: Depending on your insurance plan, there may be co-pays or deductibles. We will let you know about any potential costs before care begins.

Durable Medical Equipment

Q: Do you provide medical equipment?
A: Yes. As part of our coordinated care, we arrange durable medical equipment such as hospital beds, oxygen, wheelchairs, and more—delivered directly to the patient’s home or facility.

Q: How quickly can equipment be delivered?
A: In most cases, equipment is delivered promptly—often within 24 hours—so care can begin without delay. We own our own equipment so the process is completely streamlined.
